The news that met me in Chicago
November 4, 2015
I’m back in the US to continue working on the Hard.Land-project. On Monday evening I arrived Chicago, and was met by the news of a 9-year old boy shot dead on the South Side neighborhood of Gresham. Later the same evening, 20 year old Kaylyn Pryor was shot dead outside her grandparent’s house. I will stay here for a week, focusing on the daily life on the South Side of Chicago, a huge area where most the the focus has been on violence and killings.
From November 2 until November 21 I will be driving trough parts of the former rust belt from Chicago to New York. The trip is part of the ongoing project HardLand in collaboration with writer Roy F. Andersen. In addition to photography, I will focus on video, which will all be included in a book planned to be launched next year.
After Chicago, I will head for Detroit and cities in West Virginia before ending up in New York. Read more about HardLand here and see a video intro about the project on Vimeo.
