AFGHANISTAN
Wind blows through the building. It is ice cold. Children run around without shoes and the women make food on open fires in the smoky hallways. The dilapidated brick building is now home for returned refugees.
From the Taliban’s fall in November 2001 until 2010, more than 4.5 million Afghanis returned home after many years as refugees. Many do not dare return because of the increasingly intense war in Afghanistan.
Some of those who have, end up displaced in their own country, without work or a place to live. For others, a new life begins.
